Dr. Bert Jan Lommerts holds a Master’s degree and a PhD (with highest honors) in Chemical Engineering and Polymer Chemistry from the University of Groningen. With over 40 years of experience in materials science, he has made significant contributions to fiber technology, polymer chemistry, and road materials engineering. Dr. Lommerts previously served as a Senior Advisor to the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs, Co-founder of the Dutch GoChem Innovation Consortium for SMEs, Visiting Professor at Eindhoven University of Technology, Board Member of the Royal Dutch Chemical Society, and a Member of the Dutch Science Board. He was also twice elected President of the International Bitumen Emulsion Federation (IBEF). During his tenure at Akzo Nobel, he was involved in the development of high-performance fibers for tire reinforcement and composite materials. He later became Factory Manager of the Twaron® production facility in the Netherlands. Following this, he was appointed CEO of Latexfalt B.V., a Dutch company formed by the merger of three specialized enterprises, focusing on the development, production, and commercialization of high-performance asphalt binders, asphalt emulsions, and transparent binders for advanced road applications. Under his leadership, Latexfalt experienced continuous growth through innovation-driven R&D. After 23 years, he stepped down in 2019 to become an independent global materials consultant. Currently, Dr. Lommerts serves as the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of the XiYueFa Group in Shanxi, China, and Chief Marketing Advisor for its Shanghai sales headquarters (Road Keeper). He also continues to support the Dutch Road Authorities, with a strong focus on sustainable road construction, particularly in the development of recycling and preservation technologies and bio-based binder formulations.
